Portsmouth’s HOOLi is Imogen Cottrill, Lee Coneley and Hannah Wheatley. To be described as simply blues mavericks would be doing HOOLi a disservice. A trio of optimists in an incredulous business, working hard to be the person they thought they’d be when they were 5. HOOLi are adamantly traditional, shunning the customary electronic soundscapes and backing tracks of your average contemporary group. Opting instead to lick all over your face with unparalleled guitar prowess, flick you in the ear with charming bass chunks and spank your naughty bottom with vivacious drumming.
Drawing from a smorgasbord of influences from Dr Dre to Stevie Ray Vaughan HOOLi’s live shows are where you will see them in their element. Front man Lee is a human fusion of neck tattoos, axe smashing and speed fingering (easy now!). In the end they are just two girls and a guy just trying to get some toes tapping.
